mbbg.jpgTucked away off Manhattan Beach Boulevard in Polliwog Park is the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden. The Garden is free to the public and open daily from 8AM till sun down – which means you’ll have plenty of visiting hours left now that Spring is here and the days are longer! Even as the Garden is under an acre, you can treat yourself to themed areas, including Bird and Butterfly Habitat, Meditation Garden, Children’s Garden of Discovery, Wildflower Meadow, and Matilija Poppy Hillside. Want to volunteer? You may show up Fridays from 9:30-12:00 noon and help weed, mulch and plant the garden.

clown.gif I started taking Southbay Adult School’s Beginner Comedy Improv this spring. When I signed up for the class, I really had no idea what improv actually was. I never watched “Whose Line is It, Anyway?” Now I can appreciate comedians’ skill and courage. I can tell you from personal experience that the level of anxiety from the fear of screwing up in front of everyone is rivaled only by actually screwing up in front of everyone. I’m amazed that it’s possible to be more brilliant when you’re spontaneous and not thinking, than when you’re premeditating every analytical move. I only know this seems to often be the case!
